Join us for an engaging and thought-provoking event at the Thinking Matters Apologetics Conference, where we explore the most pressing questions about faith, reason, and truth. This year, we are honoured to welcome Wes Huff as our keynote speaker. A seasoned apologist and speaker, Wes brings a wealth of knowledge and passion for equipping Christians to defend and articulate their faith in an increasingly skeptical world.
Through dynamic talks, interactive discussions, and deep theological insights, this conference will challenge and inspire you to think critically about your beliefs and engage meaningfully with the culture around you. Whether you’re a long-time believer, a seeker, or someone wrestling with tough questions, this event will provide valuable tools to strengthen your faith and confidence in the Gospel.
Luke A. Barnes is a theoretical astrophysicist, cosmologist, and postdoctoral researcher at Western Sydney University.
He received his PhD in Astronomy from the University of Cambridge in 2009. He is a John Templeton Fellow. He has published papers in the fields of galaxy formation and the fine-tuning of the Universe for life. He is the author, with Geraint Lewis, of A Fortunate Universe: Life in a Finely Tuned Cosmos published by Cambridge University Press. He has also published papers on the philosophy of science, and regularly engages in public outreach through public speaking, articles in the popular press, and social media. He has modelled galaxy formation in a cosmological context with supercomputer simulations, and connected those simulations to observations with modeling of radiative transfer (particularly Lyman alpha emission and absorption) and realistic models of IFU observations. He has investigated the fine-tuning of the universe for intelligent life, modelling the effect of the cosmological constant on galaxy formation and the effect of alternative nuclear physics on stars. He has contributed to the philosophy of science by considering the challenges of testing multiverse theories using probability theory.
Henare Whaanga is our director for Māori Christian Apologetics. In New Zealand's early mission history, Māori Tangata Whenua embraced Christianity and experienced incredible revival across the country. Fast-forward a hundred years or so, and many Māori have come to believe their culture is incompatible with the 'colonial tool' of Christianity. Henare is passionate about seeing Māori reconciled to God once again .
